The Brunswick Lion is the oldest surviving large sculpture from the Middle Ages north of the Alps and the first large figurative hollow cast since antiquity. The bronze cast, probably created by an unknown artist in Brunswick itself, weighs 880 kg, is 1.78 m high, 2.79 m long and has a maximum wall thickness of 12 mm. Several copies of the Brunswick Lion can be found all over the world, but mainly in Germany. In 1881, a lion statue was erected in front of Ratzeburg Cathedral. sh-kunst.de/braunschweiger-loewe-in-ratzeburg de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braunschweiger_L%C3%B6we
