The mound was created during the excavation work for the rotunda for the 1873 World Exhibition in Vienna. It was named after the Oberhofmeister Konstantin zu Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst (1828-1896), who had worked on the construction management of the world exhibition.

The Constantine Hill is a seven meter high elevation in the Vienna Prater. The hill was created during the excavation work for the rotunda on the occasion of the 1873 World Exhibition in Vienna. Adjacent to the hill is the Constantine Pond, which was previously used for boat trips.
