Ely Cathedral is a magnificent 11th-century structure in the heart of Ely. The Grade I-listed place of worship is much-celebrated for its Romanesque design and huge scale. For information about visiting the cathedral, head to: elycathedral.org/visit.

Ely Cathedral is the most astonishing Cathedral ever seen - by us until now.
We have spotted that you can see the building from far away, Ely-town is dominated by the Ely Cathedral. Being in the Stretham - more than 5 miles away, we could see the tower of the Ely Cathedral over the city.

Our route on Sunday afternoon finished at the Cathedral, and we spent more than 30 minutes just taking pictures and reading briefly some information. You need at least one hour to enjoy the paintings and all the artwork, after that, you can sit down and feel the peace of mind that this church is giving you.

As per a short information found -
"Ely Cathedral has origins dating back to AD 673 when St Etheldreda built an Abbey Church. The present building dates back to 1083, and was granted Cathedral status in 1109"

I recommend anybody who is around, to take time for a visit. You will not regret it.

The cathedral's history began in 672 when St. Etheldreda founded a monastery at Ely.
