The stud farm was founded in 1912 by Heinrich von Opel. It has been family-owned ever since. From 1928, the stud farm was initially managed by Irmgard von Opel, until she passed it on to her son, Dr. Heinz von Opel, in 1978. Since October 1999, daughter Aline and son-in-law Peter Rodde have been appointed to the stud farm's management.
