The half-timbered house with the inn in the foreground is also a pretty photo motif.

St. John the Baptist
Parish patron of the parish church in Metternich.
John was the son of Elizabeth and Zechariah. According to tradition, he was born half a year before Jesus. The elderly priest Zechariah, whose marriage had been childless for a long time, sacrificed in the temple and received the promise from the archangel Gabriel that a son would be born to him. Zechariah doubted, asked for a sign and was struck dumb by the angel. Elisabeth, who actually became pregnant at an advanced age, was visited by Maria, who stayed with her until the birth of her son Johannes. Elisabeth, who was asked about the naming after the birth, knew from her intuition that the boy should be called Johannes, contrary to family tradition; at the same time Zechariah wrote the name on a wax tablet. He now regained his speech and burst into the hymn of praise handed down in the Gospel of Luke.
