The source of the Moldau is not far from the German-Czech state border.
The Vltava (Czech: Vltava) is considered the mother of all Czech rivers and is the longest watercourse in the Czech Republic. Its name comes from the Germanic “Wilth-ahwa” - “wild water”. The Warm Vltava, one of the two source streams of the river, has its source on the eastern slope of the Black Mountain (Černá hora). Here the Vltava begins its journey into the Elbe. The symbolic source of the spring can be reached via a wooden boardwalk. From the confluence with the Cold Vltava near the Dead Au (Mrtvý Luh) the river is simply called the Vltava.
