Due to its architectural style, the St. Amor Chapel is a remarkable building in the northeastern forests of Munsterbilzen. The chapel was built with demolition material from monuments destroyed in the Second World War. The building has the appearance of a mini-fortress with round corner turrets.

The Saint Amor chapel looks like a mini castle. The round tower even has loopholes. The chapel is dedicated to Saint Amor, a saint from the 8th century, a French pilgrim who settled as a hermit in Munsterbilzen in later life.

        Information board:

Take a moment to reflect on the CHAPEL OF SAINT AMOR

This chapel was built in 1941. The building blocks used come from the rubble of the floors of Belgian army barracks and from the platform that was left in the bombing in 1940. The initiator of this chapel was mayor Pieter Peters (1926-1941).

Saint Amor (ca. 700), also called Amor of Maastricht, was a confessor and deacon, probably from Aquitaine. On a pilgrimage to Rome he received the divine command to settle in our region, he became a hermit in Munsterbilzen. The Munster collegiate church was named after Saint Amor and most likely originated before 1040.

The feast of Saint Amor is on October 8.
