The Wesenitz rises in the Hohwald, part of the Lusatian Mountains, at 515 m above sea level on the Valtenberg from the mouth of the Valentin Erbstollen, an old mine.It flows through Neukirch, Bischofswerda, past Stolpen and passes the Lusatian Fault at Dürrröhrsdorf at the so-called Teufelskanzel, where it enters the Elbe sandstone.
