The nature reserve Het Goor – Asbroek is located in the valley of Asbroekloop. This stream marks the border between the municipalities of Herselt and Hulshout.

Along the stream we find nutrient-poor thickets and swamp forests. To the east, the soil is more nutrient-rich and spring bloomers can be found in the undergrowth, such as Wood Anemone and Peregrine Falcon. Near the source of the Asbroekloop we see old and well-developed oak forests, birch and alder forest complexes. You will also find here: Hengel, Dalkruid, Dubbelloof, Muskwort and Spotted fern. On the territory of Westmeerbeek, where the Asbroekloop changed name into Steenkesbeek, there is a wetland area with exceptionally rich and varied vegetation, Het Goor.

The wealth of plants and animals in Het Goor is unique. This is partly because the bubbling water in this reserve is calcareous. Lime, in combination with rather acidic sandy soil, provides special living conditions, where only adapted, often rare plants and animals can survive such as: Gentian bellflower, Galigaan, Crested skullcap and Sundew

The Goor-Asbroek nature reserve is part of the De Merode walking network, which is good for miles of walking pleasure. Het Goor is one of the top areas in Flanders for plant lovers.

Ideal area for a good nature walk.

Please note that it can be very swampy and swampy in places.
