In the area south of here there was a Celtic settlement in the 1st century BC. Although that was over 2,000 years ago, a rampart near Elsachstadt and a field of burial mounds near Burrenhof can still be seen. There was once a gate at this point, which has been reconstructed for today's visitors.

The Heidengraben was an important place of the Celts in Baden Württemberg on the Swabian Alb. The oppidum Heidengraben had an inner and an outer defense ring, within the first was the settlement Elsachstadt. In Erkenbrechtsweiler the gate G, the outer fastening ring was restored.
