Location: Kirchhain, Marburg-Biedenkopf, Gießen District, Hesse, Germany
There were two large clay mining areas in the district that were needed for house building until the 19th century. Everything a person needs to build a house was found right outside the front door (trees, stones, clay - even clay bricks were burned here). Even today, clay is increasingly being used as a natural building material.
