The Sonnenbergbähnli takes guests up to the Sonnenberg in three stages and 8 minutes. Valley station - Zumhof middle station (stop on request) - mountain station.

In 1857 a spa house was built on the Sonnenberg. But in order to enjoy the wonderful view you first had to undertake the arduous journey on foot, with a team of horses or with the donkey. However, in order to be able to build, a number of obstacles had to be overcome. It was not until 1901 that the railway project could be tackled.

Construction was completed on May 5, 1902, and the first guests were brought up to the Sonnenberg by blue train.

As a result of the First World War, tourism collapsed and rail operations were partially or completely discontinued. The Second World War finally made sure that the hotel was shut down in 1941.

In order to prevent the railway from being disrupted, 95% of the shares were auctioned by a company, an insurance company and the municipality of Kriens, although the Kurhaus was demolished. Since the little train was important to the community and the population, it was completely taken over by the community in 1957.

Today's Hotel Sonnenberg was rebuilt in 1962 not far from the old Kurhaus.

But in 1968 the end of the railway threatened, as the political authorities in Kriens saw too great a financial burden with too little benefit. But the Kriens electorate decided against it with a narrow majority in the summer of 1968 and so the railway is still allowed to exist today.
