In 1232, Hendrik I, Duke of Brabant, gave the Malderse heath in cijns or leasehold to all residents of the village. With the cultivation of this heathland, a mill had to be provided for the grain in the long term.
The Heidemolen probably originated in the 15th century, according to a manuscript from the period 1406-1407. It is said to be one of the oldest post mills in Flanders.

The height of the mill house, measured from the mill mountain to the ridge, is 13.95 metres. The mill house is about 6 by 4 meters. The blades of the mill reach 23 meters high. Each blade measures almost 15 meters. The millstones have a diameter of approximately 1.50 meters. The total weight of the mill is estimated at 35 tons.
