The Singapore River forms a central vein in Singapore's dense Central Business District. Originally Raffles landed on the north bank of the river and founded his colony, and today there are many central government buildings in the area. On the newer south bank, which is dotted with skyscrapers, Singapore's banks are making their fortunes. In between are the majority of nightclubs in Singapore, along the quays of Boat Quay, Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay.
