Little India
Although only 5.1 percent of the Singaporean population is Hindu, the Hindu temple complex "Sri Mariamman" is located directly on "South Bridge Road". Nevertheless, the complex is under special protection as it is one of the oldest witnesses to Hindu history in Singapore. As a visitor, you should therefore follow a few important rules: Entering the temple with shoes is strictly prohibited. In addition, smoking is forbidden everywhere, as is touching the deities. Also, be careful not to disturb anyone while they are praying. The temple was first built in 1827. At that time the construction was still made of wood, but already in 1862 the temple was built in the way it is seen today. In order to keep the building intact, it is completely renovated every 12 years in a dedication ceremony.
