Top cycling routes to Voßnacken Nature Reserve, Herne

Tips

  • The nature reserve Vossnacken (partly also Vossnacken written) is a nearly 20 ha large nature reserve in the northeast of the North Rhine-Westphalian city Herne. The area is very irregular. The largest extent in north-south direction is about 500 meters from the bridge of the Emscher Valley Railway on the road Voßnacken to the southernmost point north of Castroper Street in the middle between Voßnacken and the bridge over the Sodinger Bach. In the westeast direction, it is about 850 meters from the Sodinger Bach to the village road between Belmers Busch and the dam of the Emscher Valley Railway. To the north, a landscape conservation area connects to the arch of the Emscher Valley Railway. From west to east across the area runs a former dam in the earlier course of the Emscher Valley Railway from today's Hunbergstraße to the breakpoint Börnig. The nature reserve was set up to preserve the wet to wet forest areas, some of which are very ancient beeches and the habitats of endangered amphibians, insects and birds.Through subsidence a wet biotope has formed, in its deepest area is a lake about three and a half thousand square meters. The northern landscape conservation area is used for the most part agricultural. Along the Sodinger brook run economic roads, another part lies fallow and is passed by forest. The road Vossnacken, which used to connect Josefinenstraße via the Cologne-Minden railway line and under the Emscher railway to Castroper Strasse, has been turned into a dead end road from Castroper Strasse. The former road bridge over the Köln-Mindener railway line is replaced by a sidewalk bridge, therefore traffic no longer takes place in the nature reserve.

  • Perhaps of interest: as it looked in 1954, for example: much more railways; the way south of the railway line Börinig-Herne did not exist yet; the Köttelbecke Sodiinger Bach completely inaccessible; the big shift Bf. east of the main station Herne is largely fallow; several sidings in the southwest / lower left in the neckline.
