    Beautiful city a must visit.
Gubbio preserves the characteristics of the medieval towns intact: the uphill alleys, the cobbled streets, the dark stone houses with the characteristic artisan shops that opened on the ground floor (while the craftsman's house was on the first floor and that of the servants on the last one), or the unusual "door of the dead" (to allow the coffin to be carried from the first floor to the street, the narrow stairs had to be straight and therefore very steep; for this reason the door was raised above the level street)
The presence of the three classical medieval squares is also confirmed in Gubbio: the economic one, with the market, the religious one, with the cathedral and the political one with the Town Hall. On the nearby Ingino hill there is the basilica of St. Ubaldo, patron saint of the city, in whose honor the characteristic Corsa dei Ceri (Race of the Candles) is held every year.
Like Assisi and Perugia, Gubbio is also linked to the preaching of St. Francis: here the miraculous conversion of the ferocious wolf that terrorized the city took place
Finally, the typical dishes of the Umbrian cuisine are not to be missed as well.
