Gubbio stands on the slopes of Mount Ingino and was founded by the Umbrian people of whom it also preserves one of the most important testimonies: the Eugubine Tables. It was then conquered by the Romans as demonstrated by the ruins of the imposing theater just outside the walls. It was in the Middle Ages that the city reached its maximum importance, taking on the appearance it still retains today. The beauty of this city can be admired from Piazza Grande, or Piazza della Signoria, a real hanging square overlooking the roofs of the city below.
