    Renovation of the church tower
In January 2017, small fragments of the natural stone cornices on the north side came loose and the forecourt had to be closed off. During the subsequent investigations, it emerged that a threat to the stability of the two lower branch towers on the south-west corner of the tower could not be ruled out. Overall, the tower facades showed serious damage in some areas, which required extensive, timely renovation work. Due to the weather, the upper floors of the tower were particularly affected.

Things simply couldn't go on like this, said Pastor Joseph Legrand (1798-1877). When he came to Borbeck as a chaplain in 1830, cattle were still roaming the churchyard and there were only around 2,500 residents.

Five years after the foundation stone was laid, a very high-ranking visitor finally arrived from Cologne: On June 13, 1867, Archbishop Paulus Cardinal Melchers (1814-1895), Chairman of the German Bishops' Conference, consecrated the altars of Borbeck's St. Dionysius Church.
