A chapel has stood here since the 17th century. Demolished at the end of the 19th century due to the growth of the community in favor of St. Sebastian (Poppelsdorf).

From time immemorial, the parish church responsible for the population of Poppelsdorf was St. Martin in Bonn. A half-timbered chapel with a churchyard at the corner of Clemens-August-Straße / Sebastianstraße was located in the village as early as 1687, which was replaced in the same place in 1812 by a chapel in a mixed style of Romanesque and classicism, a stone building made from the material of the Martinskirche, which was laid down in the same year. - In 1845 the chapel community acquired the electoral water carrier house in Clemens-August-Straße for a clergyman who now lived permanently in Poppelsdorf. - However, the chapel was soon no longer sufficient for the steadily growing community. After the acquisition of a church property in the Kirschallee on the edge of what was then the town center, the construction of a new church began in 1888.
