The Goldene Aue extends to the north of the Kyffhäuser Nature Park. The Kelbra reservoir, which was built to protect against flooding, is located here between Kelbra, Berga and Auleben. Not only the 600 hectares of water, but also extensive reed and meadow areas offer optimal conditions for over 300 bird species. This area is an internationally important breeding and resting area and has been declared a European bird sanctuary.
