The keep of Heriboldesburg Castle in Herbolzheim dates back to the 12th century, is approximately 28 meters high, and towers over the Jagst Valley as the imposing remnant of a spur castle. Today, it stands alone, visible from afar – a silent witness to medieval history. 🏰🌳 The surrounding area, however, looks more like a messy private property: wild greenery, scattered materials, and no official access – a bit of castle romance with a backyard feel.

The Heriboldesburg in Herbolzheim is located on a mountain spur above the Jagst.
It was built in the 12th century and was the ancestral seat of the Knights of Herbolzheim, first mentioned in 1268, who died out in the 15th century.
Unfortunately, when and why the castle was destroyed is not known.
You can still see the shield walls and the entrance to the castle from the ruins. The keep is visible from afar from the surrounding hills. It is 28 meters high and has an outer diameter of 8.50 meters. Since it stands alone without any connection to any walls, it looks very majestic and imposing.
In 1962 the keep was repaired. In this way the accessibility was restored.
The entire Burgarreal is privately owned and the tower is accessible.
