On April 18, 2015, the so-called "fire route" was opened in Wachtberg. The over 30-kilometer hiking trail between Rodderberg in Wachtberg and Tomberg in Rheinbach was designed and implemented by the Rhineland Nature Park with the participation of experts, institutions and associations, including the Wachtberger Wander-Verein e.V. The aim was to create an attractive excursion destination, taking into account aspects of environmental education and nature conservation, which emphasizes the special features of the natural and cultural landscape in the southern Rhineland Nature Park.
