At Vlijmen, the connection is needed between Moerputten, Vugtse Gement towards the Engelermeer and the Maas. The Baardwijkse spillway plays an important role in connecting the Loonse and Drunense Duinen with the polders and floodplains of the Bergse Maas. The bottleneck was partially resolved between 2005 and 2008.
