This beautiful historic lock has regulated the water between the Drongelens Canal and the polders between Vlijmen and Den Bosch for more than a century. In this way, the lock ensures that we keep our feet dry during high tide, and in dry weather, water flows into the area behind it. A real gem in the field of water management.
The lock has been completely renovated and reopened on 10 April 2025.
Thanks to the restoration, the lock can continue to play an important role in the future. When the water level in the Drongelens Canal rises, the lock is closed manually to prevent flooding. This last happened at the end of 2023, during high tide. This prevented high water from flowing into the polders south of Vlijmen from the canal. In drier times, this inlet work ensures that these polders are supplied with water. Water from the Drongelens Canal fills the ditches and streams.
