This is a Geological monument. Text on the information board:

During a period of the Tertiary. 40 to 12 million years ago, South Limburg was flooded several times by the North Sea. The coastline shifted to the Ardennes. Clay and sand were alternately deposited in this sea. When the sea withdrew westward about 12 million years ago, South Limburg was dissolved together with the Ardennes and came to lie in the basin of the East Maas. A long period of erosion set in. The deposited clay and sand was largely broken down. The aggregation of sand by means of quartz cement resulted in the formation of the Sandstone blocks present here.

    Sinkhole above geological organ pain.

Geological organ pipes are rare karst phenomena that arise in places where more rainwater sinks into the soil than normal. In these places, the limestone is dissolved more quickly, creating round solution funnels, which are filled with subsiding soil layers that cover the lime. This is visible on the surface through a deepening in the landscape, a doline.

Nice, quiet picnic spot a bit off route.
