The chateau is located in the center of Děčín above the confluence of the rivers Elbe and Ploučnice. It is one of the largest and historically significant objects of its kind in Bohemia. After some rebuilding it has grown up to the shape of the Baroque-Klasic castle.

In the area of today's castle, the wooden castle already existed in the 10th century. It was rebuilt into a royal castle in the 13th century. From the beginning of the 14th century, the object served as the representative seat of several noble families, whose fate influenced most of the following rulers: the gentlemen from Vartenberk, from Bünau and counts from the family of Thun-Hohenstein. In 1932, the Thun family was forced, for economic reasons, to sell the castle to the Czechoslovak state.

Since 1932, the castle area has served the Czechoslovak, German and Soviet garrisons. Stays of the armies have very clearly damaged the building. The departure of the Soviet Army in 1991 has made it possible to begin with a refurbishment of the castle grounds and has also had an endeavor to make the castle accessible to the public.

Today, the castle is owned by the city Děčín and forms an uncontrollable dominant of this border settlement.

The castle can be surrounded on foot, but also by bike and explore!

In the castle garden behind the castle you should stay a bit longer and admire the old and interesting trees.

      Very well maintained facility!

A Renaissance castle was built on the remains of a castle in the 16th century. After the end of the war, the palace served the Soviet Army as a cash box, from which it suffered greatly. It has been extensively renovated and has become a feast for the eyes.
