In keeping with the spirit of the times, the people of Baerler insisted on erecting a memorial in honor of their emperor and as a symbol of remembrance for the fellow citizens who fell in the wars of 1866 and 1870/71, which found its place near the church. The community had raised 3,700 marks for the construction, including donations from the population. On March 22, 1893, the monument was inaugurated in a patriotic ceremony with the active participation of the population, clubs, guests and dignitaries.
