Fritz Schumacher, the architect of the Krugkoppelbrücke was Hamburg's big city planner.
Holthusenbad and Davidwache, Stadtpark and Krugkoppelbrücke: Fritz Schumacher's buildings and facilities characterize Hamburg's cityscape to this day. More than 90 buildings and bridges, many of them made of brick, testify to its immense creative power.
For 24 years, from 1909 until his compulsory retirement by the Nazis in 1933, Schumacher designed modern Hamburg in his function as building director. His work extends far beyond the mere buildings: Schumacher's goal was to create a new home for the modern urban man.
