The “Hellern bei Wietze” nature reserve includes a river valley with mixed oak and beech forests as well as old tree stands with dead wood and tree hollows. The aim of the protection is to preserve the natural flowing water system of the Wietze and its floodplain landscape, to promote near-natural forest structures, to protect the habitat for the otter and to prevent harmful inputs into the water edges.
