Europe is littered with the Way of St. James, all of which end in Santiago de Compostela. In Germany, the designation of paths did not begin until 1992, when six Jakobus parishes realized a pilgrimage route from Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Nuremberg. Since 2005 the routes of the St. James pilgrims in northern Germany with the two main routes Via Baltica from Usedom to Osnabrück and Via Jutlandica from Frederikshavn to Glückstadt have been developed. A nice overview of the Jakobsweg can be found here: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jakobsweg#/media/Datei:Ways_of_St._James_in_Europe.png

The Way of St. James, particularly the Via Scandinavica, also runs through the area around Wieckenberg. This section of the pilgrimage route connects the region with other important stations on the Via Scandinavica, which leads from Scandinavia to Santiago de Compostela. The route begins in Lindwedel and continues for an approximately 19 km stage to Wieckenberg. The route runs through the Wieckenberg Forest, a tranquil and natural landscape that is equally attractive to cyclists and pilgrims.

A notable stop on this stage is the Stechinelli Chapel in Wieckenberg, built in 1692 and featuring an outbuilding serving as a pilgrim's hostel and place of retreat. It offers pilgrims a place of rest and contemplation and is an important stop along the way. After Wieckenberg, the Way of St. James continues towards Wietze and Celle. The route is marked throughout with yellow shells on a blue background.

The section through the Wieckenberg Forest, in particular, offers an idyllic and contemplative atmosphere. Anyone who cycles the Way of St. James in this region can look forward to a combination of nature, spirituality and history.
