Please check local regulations for: Brecon Beacons National Park
Lying in the Fforest Fawr region of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Fan Gyhirych looms above the A4067. At 2,379 feet (725 m), it’s of a significant size but the going is straightforward, making it a great place for families to go adventuring, as well as seasoned explorers. Fan Gyhirych has a lower summit, Fan Fraith, and plenty of other nearby peaks to conquer while you’re up there.
A common starting point is in Glyntawe to the south west, or Cray Reservoir to the north. The terrain can be quite boggy, so waterproof boots are a good idea but it tends to get drier the higher you go. When you reach the top, you’ll find a very large summit plateau, which prevents the immediate view from being particularly dramatic. You can see the mighty Pen-y-Fan from here though to the north east, and on the north east of Fan Gyhirych is a glacial cwm, its drop off allowing for better views if you wander towards the edge.
Fan Gyhirych is a mountain in Fforest Fawr, Brecon Beacons. The plateau summit stands at 2,379 feet (725 m) and is marked by a trig point. You get lovely views, especially in clear conditions.
