Even from afar you can see the towers of the historic Plessa power plant reaching into the sky. It was commissioned in 1927, mainly to supply electricity to the nearby briquette factory. With the end of lignite processing, the briquette factory was shut down and the power plant lost its importance. Today it is the only remaining contemporary witness of the coal production around Plessa. Unfortunately, a visit is not possible for structural reasons. But it is also an impressive sight from the outside.

The Plessa power plant is an industrial monument in the southern Brandenburg municipality
Plessa in the Elbe-Elster district and one of the oldest brown coal power plants in Europe, which has been preserved in its original structure.
The power plant was put into operation in 1927 by the Gröba Electricity Association. In the 1920s and 1930s it was one of the most modern peak-load power plants of the time.
