Plessa in the Elbe-Elster district and one of the oldest brown coal power plants in Europe, which has been preserved in its original structure.
The power plant was put into operation in 1927 by the Gröba Electricity Association. In the 1920s and 1930s it was one of the most modern peak-load power plants of the time.

In 1992, with the closure of the briquette factory and the power plant, brown coal processing in Plessa came to an end after almost 100 years.
