Friedrich Wilhelm Dihm (1806-1884) often stayed with his family in Ilmenau between 1853 and 1883 for a cure. He donated considerable sums of money for the needy several times.
Out of gratitude he became an honorary citizen of the city of Ilmenau and this place here was created for him.
