The place was created by an Augustinian monastery founded in 1136. The monastery was abolished under Napoleon in 1699 and sold for demolition in 1811. The ruins of the large monastery church below the red wine hiking trail still testify to this today. The excellent vineyards there are cultivated on a cooperative basis.
