Y Garn of the Glyderau is a mountain of two halves. On one side it drops in continuous green slopes to the pass of Llanberis. On its other it’s a scooped cluster of cliffs, ridges and buttresses, including the scrambling showpiece of Castell y Geifr, all the way to Llyn Idwal in Snowdonia’s most beautiful cwm.

The Garn is a super mountain with the most wondrous of views in all directions but in particular down into Cwm Idwal and up the Ogwen Valley. If you are going down that way it is also a very steep decent, which means it is also a steep ascent too. Coming over from Glyder Fawr is easier but then you have to get to the top of Glyder Fawr somehow too. I have done the Glyder Horseshoe many times and this is the best way to take the Glyders in and it is a superb outing. For further information on the route click here: komoot.com/tour/262620235

When hiking the Welsh 3000s, the Y Yarn is the fifth summit, you will reach. Nevertheless, on the summit you're rewarded with a breathtaking view of the vast surrounding landscape. Llyn Ogwen, Llyn Idwal, Llyn Clyd and Llyn Clyd Bach. Above the picturesque landscape, the distinctive Tryfan peaks towers up in the sky.

        -------------------------------------------------- ------

For hikers on the tour of the Welsh 3,000s, the Y yarn is the fifth three-thousanders on the list. But for all other hikers, the summit offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. Deep below you is the Ogwen Valley with its four lakes and over the landscape the striking peak of the Tryfan towers into the sky.
