The old remains of the barracks that served as accommodation for workers until the 1930s.

In my opinion, this place has its own special atmosphere!

Slate mining at Dinorwig began in 1787 and ended in 1969. At its peak, the quarry employed over 3,000 men and produced 100,000 tonnes of slate products annually. Today, the quarry is all but abandoned, apart from a few climbers and divers and some very curious wild mountain goats. The only other activity at the quarry is the generation of electricity from the hydroelectric power station at the foot of the quarry.

Many old, derelict buildings still bear witness to the earlier activities. Not beautiful in the classic sense, but very interesting and with a very special atmosphere!
