Mountain Biking Highlight
In early modern times, the Oberbürg was considered one of Nuremberg's most magnificent mansions. The moated castle located in a pond was most likely not, as Friedrich August Nagel has assumed, the original Laufamholzer Reichsministerialenburg. Rather, as Ansgar Wittek has pointed out, the Oberbürg would not have originated as a seat until the 15th century, after the ownership of 1407/09 [cf. Unterbürg]. At that time, Hans d. J. Groland took over the land in the area of the later Oberbürg. There stood a wealthy court, which was burned down in the First Margrave War in 1449 and was in ruins for many years.Further information: herrensitze.com/oberburg.html
