The living space is around 700 meters south-west of the Woltersdorf district. The further residential area of Bleiche is located to the south-east, the Steiner river flowing from the south-east in a north-westerly direction to the east. In the west, the district borders on the town of Luckenwalde.

The cloth maker Christian Jänichen from Luckenwalde built a fulling mill at the beginning of the 18th century outside the town gates. This appeared in 1745 as belonging to Luckenwalde and was referred to in 1801 as a cloth fulling mill. At that time, Luckenwalde was a stronghold of fabric production. The textiles were further processed in the fulling mill and exposed to bleach in the sun on the nearby meadows. The previously overshot water wheel was converted into an undershot wheel after 1836. The mill was powered by steam and water in 1858. During this time, a total of 68 people lived in the bleaching and the mill in 1837; In 1871 there were seven people in the mill. Their number dropped to six people in 1895 and rose to 13 people in 1905. In 1925 14 people lived in Walkmühle. The mill owner Hermann Gadischke built an inn in the 20th century and had the right registered to dam the Steiner River and fish there. A little later he was also granted permission to install a turbine system. After the Second World War, the building served as a military hospital for a short time and later as a children's holiday camp. In 2023, the building will be used by an environment and health center.
