A nice little place with a nice fountain. It is also used for short breaks in fine weather. The bust of Kaiser Wilhelm looks over from the other side of the street.

Especially charming in Bergedorf is the Kaiser Wilhelm Platz with its 100-year-old fountain and the monument to Kaiser Wilhelm I, who gave this place its name. In this area there are a number of benches where you can relax on a tour, and from which you can look at the beautiful gardens, which are lovingly cared for by the gardeners of the garden and cemetery department.

After the death of Kaiser Wilhelm I (* March 22, 1797, † March 9, 1888), the first emperor of the German Empire, founded in 1871, monuments were erected in numerous German cities. Often there were magnificent equestrian statues by renowned artists. In smaller towns there were mostly busts, as was the case in Bergedorf, which at that time was still an independent town. The simple bust, inaugurated in 1891, is a work by Felix Görling, which was sold in larger editions.Plant data:Felix Görling: Kaiser Wilhelm bust (1891, bronze)
