    Bergedorf Town Hall Park
If you leave the hiking trail along the Schulenbrooksbek in the center of Bergedorf to make a detour to the beautiful Bergedorf town hall, then you should also take a look at the associated park.
The privilege of the Bergedorf town hall to have its own park can be traced back to its eventful history. It was once the villa of the businessman Hermann Messtorff, which he had the architect Johann Grotjahn built in 1898/99. When on April 8, 1924 the house and the entire property became the property of the city of Bergedorf, the castle-like building was to be converted into the town hall.
Between 1925 and 1927, it was adapted to modern requirements through a complete renovation according to the plans of the city councilor Wilhelm Krüger and the architect Georg Lindner. However, they wanted to keep the main rooms of the villa with their lavish historical furnishings for representational purposes: the hall of mirrors, the mayor's room and the eastern staircase. The new town hall itself, on the other hand, was furnished in the Art Deco style. The last extensive restorations of the historical rooms were only a few years ago. In 2003 the facade got its third repaint.
The park as it is today also dates from the time of the Messtorff villa. At that time, the lower part of the park was even accessible through a specially created tunnel. Messtorff had a pillar temple built at the foot of what was then the larger so-called fish pond of the Schulenbrooksbek. One year after the villa and park had passed into the ownership of the city of Bergedorf, the "Horticultural Exhibition Bergedorf 1925" was held on this park-like complex, in the villa and in some of the neighboring gardens.
The basic forms of the old Messtorff estate can still be seen today. Nevertheless, the park has since been redesigned several times, for example the open-air theater area. Furthermore, a large playground area was created and several works of art were installed.
The park is an important garden monument.
