Archbishop Balduin von Trier and church life go hand in hand.
A church community developed from the smallest of beginnings. At first the inhabitants of our village belonged to the church in Habenscheid. The residents of Hausen belonged to the church in Freiendiez. A chapel in Balduin Castle, which is now in ruins, was consecrated on April 19, 1430 in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Apostle Matthias. The current Marienglocke in the parish church dates back to that time. The Reformation was introduced in Nassauer Land in 1564. Balduinstein found itself in an insular position. All neighboring villages became Protestant. This moved Trier to raise Balduinstein to its own parish
