Tips

  • The construction of today's bridge structure began in 1880 and was carried out almost simultaneously with the construction of the customs bridge. The inauguration of both bridges, which together cost one million marks, took place in 1882. Both bridges were equipped with devices so that they could be blown up at short notice in the event of war. These devices were apparently equipped with TNT during World War II in order to be able to blow up the bridge if the Allies advanced. By September 2016, around 140 kilograms had been found. A further search for any explosives that may still be present should be carried out from the beginning of October 2016.
