Wilhelm August Eduard Johnson (1840 to 1903) was a German classical philologist, journalist and local researcher in the Vogtland. He died of a heart attack. In 1941, a memorial stone was erected on the spot where his body was found.
The memorial stone was removed as part of the GDR border security. The memorial stone was only rebuilt in 2007 and an information board was put up.

The best way to discover the monument is to hike along the Germany Green Belt. It stands directly on the Kolonnenweg of the former GDR border, west of Sachsgrön am Fuchspöhl.
