The Protestant Margrave Church was built in 1757 on the site of a St. Mary's Church (early mass chapel) by Johann David Steingruber, the architect of the Ansbach Margrave Carl Wilhelm Friedrich. This early mass chapel was built around 1450, concurrent with the founding of the Pappenheim-Treuchtlingen branch. The chapel was severely damaged during the Thirty Years' War. The Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach, who ruled Treuchtlingen after the Pappenheims, had Protestant services held in the formerly Catholic chapel. The steadily growing Protestant congregation prompted the Margraves to rebuild the church. Designed by the Ansbach court architect Johann David Steingruber, the Protestant-Lutheran parish church was built in 1757 in the Margrave style: the altar, pulpit, and organ are arranged one above the other. It reached its present size in 1893 when it was extended westward.
