At the Stadionschen Schloss in Bönnigheim there is a memorial stone that commemorates the Bönnigheim mayor (Schultiß) Johann Heinrich Rieber, who was murdered on October 21, 1835.
The murderer fled to the USA and was transferred there by an emigrant from Bönnigheim. For the first time in criminal history, a forensic ballistic examination was used to clear up the case.
The mayor was probably murdered because of the rejection of an applicant (Gottlob Rueb) for the forestry office in Stetten am Heuchelberg.
