Between fields and the important nature reserve of the Bois de Laurensart. The nature reserve Bois de Laurensart is a nature reserve on the Brabant plateau that is characterised by three geological substrates: alluvium, silt, sand and sandstone. It has three dominant soil types: moderately gleyed soils (transformed into clay) from 40 cm on open silt in the wet part. On the western slope, the southern part of the eastern slope and the western part of the plateau it is characterised by dry sandy loam soils with a humus layer. On the eastern slopes and the eastern part of the plateau the soils are sandy loam soils.Traces of human presence have been found since the Middle Paleolithic (70,000 to 30,000 BC), as evidenced by the flints found in the surrounding fields. In the Neolithic period (4,000 or 3,000 BC), hunters and gatherers settled here and became farmers and cattle breeders. The visible earthen wall on the site is a remnant that testifies to the habitation of this area by the so-called “Michelsberg” population.More about the management, flora and fauna of this natural area where you walk here at crdg.eu/actions-2/zones-humides-naturelles-2/bois-laurensart
