The “Kuchlbauer” has one of the oldest brewing rights in the world. As early as 1300, the brewery's headquarters in Abensberg received brewing rights from the Count of Abensberg. In 1751, Josef Amann, known as “Kuchlpaur”, i.e. food supplier to the episcopal monastery in Regensburg, acquired the Abensberg property including brown beer and wheat beer. This is where the company name “Zum Kuchlbauer” comes from.
