    After the Second World War, the demand for hard coal increased significantly in the early 1950s. On January 2, 1952, work began on the Strutzberg tunnel, which was ultimately 202 m long, south of the Mooshütte on the eastern slope of the Strutzberg (198 m above sea level). The tunnel was used to mine remaining coal pillars.
