Hardehausen Monastery was founded in 1140 as a Cistercian monastery. The large buildings still indicate the former important function of the monastery. Despite this, the site has changed a lot since its dissolution in 1803, as the monastery was converted into a domain. For example, there is no longer a historical church.

And yet the monastery is once again owned by the church and serves as a youth education center and as a Catholic elementary school. The site is freely accessible.
